Since my 300 PRC+P is ready for So. Africa with 5-weeks to spare, I can turn my attention to other things. One of those things will be the new Cutting Edge Bullets .284/7mm Single Feed Lazer in my 7mm MAX. This will be on my Terminus Kratos Lite/Ti action in a Manners EH1 stock. It has been nearly 30 years since I tried an all copper bullet but I look forward to trying this new bullet.

Are you considering this maybe going to SO. Africa as a backup?

I assume these won't actually have to be a single feed since this is on a long action?

I always tell my wife......I didn't get this size by not eating......

So in every house that we have bought or built.....she gets exactly what she wants in the Kitchen, and her bathroom that I rent a corner of off of her. ;)
Whenever she seams to be down on another purchase for my hobby we look at the kitchen and she immediately forgets about everything but her dream kitchen. Then we start talking about the other areas of the house that need to fit in the dream.

Real anxious for the data on this one. I'm building a 7 saum and would love to have these bullets as an option

I’m interested to hear your results, particularly will you be able to find a seating depth that groups well and gets at or under 3.20 coal. I’m running a 7 max in a Defiance anti-XM, would consider running these if I can get them to mag feed, cutting edge website says single feed only.

For comparison, I’ve got some 195 EOL’s loaded to 3.10 coal and that leaves about 1.10 of the bullet protruding from the case. The cutting edge website has a projection length of 1.051, so this seems like it should mag feed with some room to spare

I’m currently working with PVA 150 Cayuga’s and Badlands 150 Bulldozers, both have G7 bc’s above 0.300 but haven’t settled in on a load I’m satisfied with for either of them yet.

I have done my research and homework and now I just need to load up some for a ladder and get to load development. That is my tougher challenge now that summer is in full swing with temps into the 80s just after sunrise and climbing. I need to find a place to shoot in cooler temps. That could be only 1-2 hrs from here so I need to take a drive and find a good spot.

The worst part is gas prices right now Ladd. Sucks, but I know you'll find a spot.
That does blow. Diesel hit $5.65/gal here and it is climbing too.

I’ve got the 145’s to try out first in my saum I’m building. I don’t see these on their website, but would like to try them also. Curious on your results, as I know they’ll be well documented.

I can't wait to get to them either. If all goes well, that will be by the end of this month.

Here we go with the start of load development. First on the list is H1000 and N565. I have N560, R19, RL26 and Retumbo in the batters circle warming up. 5A1C26C1-884F-4AF8-9BE4-B492958D0DD0.jpeg

The G7 is not published but the G1 is estimated at .620

It is a 1:8 twist. The Cutting Edge Lazers do look sweet loaded. I can load from the mag too since this is a long action. If I don't stay up late watching The Terminal List I will be out racing the sun and temps, probably 73F ambient at 5am.

How long is the bullet past the sealing band? Curious if it would work in my tikka magazines.

Just a little FYI, You can actually push the seal tight band into the case neck a little if needed. I think I read that on an instruction sheet.
That is an option listed in Cutting Edge Bullets reloading instructions.

Two quick pressure tests this morning with different results. N565 is very accurate with the velocity topping out at 3116 fps. I loaded from 59.5 to 64.5 with very little pressure sign albeit a little change in bolt lift toward the end.

H1000 was not very accurate but I started too high. It had velocity right out the gate for the first four rounds and with pressure so I called it maxing out at 3250 fps at 67.0 gr. If I try a ladder with H1000 I would start around 57 gr and move up. I started with the best data I could research which was 65-69 gr probably at or near max.

Here’s the N565 test on paper. 35EDFFD5-1AF1-4C9E-AB92-3E670B48C6C6.jpeg

Here’s the four shots with H1000 and not looking good.

Looks like you're on the right track with N565. What is the case fill like on the tope end. Did you need to use a drop tube or vibrate or anything?

No. A drop tube wasn't necessary. I did vibrate the very last one.

I backed off on H1000 and continued that pressure test. The target started to look better but I think still not as good as N565. H1000 tapped out just a bit ahead of N565 with ~3120 fps.

I wanted to try RL26 as well so I ran 8 charges starting at 60.5 grain and up. It produced up to 3150 fps with no real signs of pressure yet but the target looks worse than H1000. So bad, I don’t think I will pursue that one further.

I can move on with N565 but I am thinking of trying N560 first. Maybe RL23 if I can find any. I am curious to see if N560 delivers the accuracy as N565 seams to have plus a bit more velocity. Maybe we will see. 176A31B1-A2EA-401E-B3CF-222E774F3299.jpeg

Getting some great velocities with those freedom seeds. I would have thought the bearing surface would cut into that quite a bit with them being so long but the 7max seems to push them right out. I think that n560 is a good idea.

So far, the best thing I like about the Cutting Edge Bullets Lazer is the SealTite band. It is very nice to be able to forget about seating depth and not worry about that or search for the best depth. Reducing the OCD list is muy bueno.

I am thinking I can get these up to 3200 fps with the right powder but without accuracy, there is no point really. If 3200 is not in the picture I am certain there is a load somewhere north of 3050 and south of 3095 with N565. For now, without good data to follow, I am trying on a few powders to see what fits.

The 7max is a nice little cartridge. Not quite on par with a throated 7mm Rem mag but neatly compacted with a decent punch.

Seems like a competitor for the 6.5prc really. Either way....fun little science experiment for ya.

I think it will be a nice round for deer and antelope that one could use in leau of the 6.5 PRC. This is my first time trying all copper bullets since Barnes first came out with one. I remember trying to get that to shoot out of my 300 wm but it would not so I have been skeptical since. The CEB Lazers seem like they will be very accurate.

I have a final round of pressure testing to do with N560 then I'll move to a ladder at 750 yards. If N560 shoots as well as N565 then I will have to choose between the two. H1000 and RL26 are out.
