Just thought I would start a thread where we could share some 300 RUM load info.

My pet load with the 300 RUM thus far has been 87grs H1000 with 210gr Berger Hunting VLD, getting 2885fps with 11fps ES out of an off the shelf Sendero.

Load data that I've received from Walt Berger for the 210 VLD

H1000 85.3grs 2833fps to 91.6grs 3038fps

RETUMBO 85.5grs 2844fps to 92.0grs 3035fps

Ramshot Magnum 86.0grs 2835fps 90.8grs 2995fps

Please feel free to add loads tips or tricks for the 300 RUM

I'll post an old load I worked up with the 210's. With the introduction of the 215 and 230 Hybrids I wont be using the 210's anymore but for those who do, here's what I came up with.

210's seat about .020 off the lands in a factory Sendero
93 Retumbo
Rem brass
215 primers
MV about 3130
Accuracy about .5 MOA

While I'm at it, here's a load for the 180 E-Tips seated about .020 of the lands same rifle.
98 Retumbo
Rem brass
215 primers
MV about 3400
Accuracy about .4 MOA

I did no load development for these other than to find the max load and use that. No other charges were used other than to climb the pressure ladder and no seating variations.

I have a new 300 RUM now that I will start load development for in about 2 weeks and report back with new info on new bullets and powders. RL33 is looking very promising for the heavy bullets.

Very interested on how the RL 33 works out.

What's your load for the 230's if you don't mind?

Ryan, I do not have an RL33 load for the RUM yet. I did use it (90 gr) with the 230's to do a break-in. My barrel is being sent for nitriding today and when it gets back in a couple of weeks I'll begin load development. I'll definitely share it with the forum.

Caleb, I procratinated a little and only got my rifles back to the smith about a week and a half ago. also been out of town a lot and will be on and off for the next couple of months but i hope to get them back and start shooting in a couple of weeks or so. It may take a while to draw any conclusions. It will be interesting to see what velocity I'll get and how well the barrel cleans.

I have a Sendero SF in 300 Rum. Fully bedded and braked!

I have had great success with the 220 gr SMK, 90 gr H1000, and Federal 215M primers! COAL is 3.6850. It will shoot under 1/2" all day! I've been shooting this load for the last 12 years. I wanted to switch over to the Bergers, however, my opinion is, don't fix it if it isn't broken!

Finally completed my load developement and settled on 90gr. of Retumbo with an ES of 12fps and an average of 3070fps over 4 rounds at
3064,3067,3076,3076 FPS.
Seated at 3.810 COAL printing 3/8" groups at 100yds. Ready to go long !

Also ran a short ladder with some H1000 :
87gr.-3004,2969,2970,2986
88gr.-3035,3065,3021,3071
89gr.-3063,3043,3046,3058
90gr.-3113,3078,3094,3140
91gr.-3121,3115,3109,3109

Faint ejector marks at 89g.
Ejector marks and flattend primers at 90gr.
Stiff bolt lift at 91gr.

As always start low and run your own ladder testing in your rifle to determine a safe load.

Viper, There is more info on this over in the New Builds section.
I went from a New Build right into load developement so it kind of stood there.

I finally got rl33 and my 300rum over the chrono over the weekend. With the 225 hdy match and 95 rl33 I'm getting 2980 fps avg. and .55 moa accuracy @ 200 yds. There's room to go up a bit, but why? I haven't got a brake on the rifle so it's already getting a bit frisky.

Lefty that should be a load that will serve you well and promote decent barrel life with plenty of down range energy.

But I would want a brake to spot my own shots.

yep, it will likely get a brake (if I can find a quieter one)on the re-bbl, but it is a bdl so the front sight would have to move or be taken off. I'm going to leave the rifle stock for now and do it up fully (stock, trigger, barrel, action job) when the barrel is gone. It's one of the best bone stock remmy's I've seen... I haven't even bothered to float the bbl or put a better recoil pad on it; it still has the hard rubber one.

I’m not sure what 180gr bullet you’re planning to use but 90gr would be a safe starting point

Just thought I would freshen this thread up a bit.

Since original post I sold that Sendero and purchased another.

Current load for this 300 RUM is

Remington Sendero, bedded, jewell trigger, HS Precision DM

Bullet weight and Mfg.: Berger 215
Powder and charge in grains: H1000 91.5grs
Cartridge OAL, yes OAL (not to the ogive): 3.775”
Primer: CCI 250
Brass Mfg.: Federal
Velocity: 3009fps
Barrel length: 26” factory
Freebore of your chamber: Remington factory
Comments on function, brass life, accuracy, temp stability, and bullet performance on game if you have it(please keep this data driven not emotional). :

Function of the rifle is great, repeatable and reliable. Brass life has been good. Accuracy is awesome, very happy considering it is a factory rifle. Temp stability is good. Its a hammer!!!! Those that are sending a 215gr Berger at that 3000fps plus will know what Im talking about….. it is flat out impressive to see the terminal performance when the metal meets the meat!!
