Just got done elk hunting and shot a bull at a very short 250 yards. Happy to say the 220 grain ELD-X performed well at short range. Shot the bull in the crease and it destroyed the vitals and unfortunately the offside shoulder. However, the bullet did travel all the way into the offside shoulder and almost exited. I will provide some pictures…..looked like a bomb went off in the animal and in the offside shoulder. My 300 win has that bullet moving along at 2825 fps. In this particular example, the performance of this bullet was fine at such short range. I was worried this bullet was going to be fragile in short range situations and it worked out ok in this one example. I wouldn’t hesitate to take on a shoulder with the 220 eldx. Just thought I would share a real world example.

Thanks for sharing actual experience. Better to lose a little meat than the whole animal. That did do some serious damage. I bet he didn’t go far

The first shot killed him but he was still on his feet. I put a second one in him because elk are elk and they can be in the next county in minutes so i hit him again. It wasn’t needed, but better safe than sorry. Anyway, after I gutted him I was very impressed with the Performance of the eld-x. It’s very accurate in this gun and I will continue to use them going forward.
