A buddy I know has developed a load with the 210 Berger at 2950 fps that shoots lights out in his 300. Honestly my experience with Berger has not been all that great although they did the job. I never used them on elk so I can't give him any input. Does anybody here have any experience with them on big animals. This is the bullet he's using

Are the hunting vlds better suited
They would likely open at a lower impact velocity as they have a thinner jacket. That said, only a few thousands thinner. Look at it this way, the 215 is a target Hybrid and thay have been smashing elk since they came out. I shot the 210's before the 215's were available. Even way back when my 30 cal was a 30-378 Accumark I ran the 210's at 3050 fps and that took my first Bull elk and broke both front shoulders. I say they will work just fine if they are placed close to the mark.

Also have had great experience with Berger 210 HVLD on Elk. Most shots have been in that 300yd range, we have taken 1 bull at 670yds. Bull humped up on impact went about 4 steps and fell over dead.

I predominantly use 215gr Berger today, but Im not sad to have some 210s for back up.

We shot the 210s before switching to 215s, then 230s in my .300RUM.

Shots from about 70 to 350 using the 210s. Never had an elk walk away from one.

Just curious, How bad was the meat damage? What was performance on a close shot. I have yet to kill anything with a 210, but plan to this year. Where I am at I could get a shot from 50 yards to 800 yards

You couldn't eat the ribs in the area of impact. Other than that, it was fine.

A guy I work with uses the 210’s loaded by unknown munitions in his 300RUM. He said they worked great and that is the only bullet he uses.

My experiences are very small as I just started using them last year out of my 300 Win Mag. I am shooting the HVLD at 3050 FPS with a stout load of Retumbo. I shot two cow elk, a whitetail doe and a mule deer doe all with them trying to see if I wanted to stick with them. I can say they are still loaded in my 300 as we speak. First cow- 268 yard shot hit behind the shoulder dropped where she stood. Second cow- 255 yard shot hit in the ribs ran 40 yards tipped over. Whitetail doe- 325 yard shot through the ribs out the other side dead within 20 yards. Mule Deer doe- 400 yards shot in the ribs dropped where she was standing. Both deer had exits and neither elk did but I do not care about an exit hole if I can watch them drop if they fall within 50 yards of where they are shot. I do not have any extremely close range info with them but I do not shoot shoulder if I can help it because I want to eat what I harvest. The vitals on all four of the animals were destroyed. I have never seen that kind of performance out of a bullet. I was very impressed. I am going to try them again this year and we will see what happens. Good luck in your adventures!
