I ask this question because we have a serious shortage of ammo up here in northern Alberta. My Father in law has a 30-06 and he grabbed two boxes of 165nab’s but they shoot poorly. Normally myself or one of my sons would just reload some ammo and figure something out for him but components are tough to find also. We do have about 30 boxes of Hornady M1 Garand ammo available for sale and they are loaded with the 168ELDM. I know the heavier ELDM’s work for hunting but I could not find much for this 168gr bullet. He usually shoots deer, moose and elk at 50-200yards so I’m not worried about long range performance. I figure worst case we get some and try it but I would like to hear from experience if they work or to avoid.
Thanks

I can't say anything about the 168 eld-m, but my hunting partner shot a black bear we saw 100 yards off the road with the 147 eld-m @ 3100fps muzzle velocity and it didn't blow up like some reports out there. It was a double lung pass through shot and pretty impressive, no more bloodshot than an accubond or eld-x. Just one experience, and a lot smaller animal than a moose or elk, but stay off the shoulder bones if you try them. Your better off with a regular accubond or partition at those ranges, thats what I took for Moose and had zero regrets

I haven’t shot the 168s but have shot a few boxes of the 162 eld-S in 7mm rem mag. Elk and Moose most guys will tell you to stay at or above 30 caliber but if that’s all you got go for it. My 7mm hornady bullet of choice is the 175 eld-X and that’s worked fantastic on elk and everything smaller even at long range.

I've used the 7mm 162 eldm on 2 deer this year. Both were at about 100 yards and I was very happy with their performance. Both were complete pass throughs with fast kills and plenty of blood.

I shoot the 168eldm at 2650 out of my 308. Have yet to recover one on whitetales from 50 to 400 yards. They work great.

Thats a good endorsement. A coworker uses the 178 eldm in his 30-06 and go a cow elk at about 400yds. Found a nice mushroomed bullet on the for side.
i will buy a box and see how they shoot.

I’ve had lots of friends here in Wyo use ELD-M in diff calibers on deer and antelope no problem. As some have said, stay outta the shoulder on bigger game and just send it.
